Caring in the community: the Pet Care team volunteers at New Hope Animal Rescue

At Kin Vet, we believe caring for animals goes beyond the practice doors. That’s why we’re so proud when our teams take that passion outside the practice and support local organisations or charities that share our values. Recently, our colleagues at Pet Care Veterinary Surgery in Erith championed this mission and spent a day volunteering with New Hope Animal Rescue in Herne Bay. Here’s what they got up to!

New Hope Animal Rescue is a charity that is dedicated to intervening for animals on “death row”. This involves taking in animals with nowhere else to go and caring for them in foster homes, private boarding, or with their team directly. The charity relies heavily on donations, volunteer fosterers, and partnerships with fellow rescues to manage high veterinary costs and limited space.

While the Pet Care vet team unfortunately couldn’t provide foster homes to the several dairy cows, horses, dogs, pigs, birds, cats, marmosets, sheep, goats and alpacas that the charity cares for, the team rolled up their sleeves and spent their day lending a hand in the pens and fields picking up muck and clearing walkways and helping with the daily routines of care, as well as receiving a tour of the establishment.

The team came away feeling rewarded and with a deeper understanding of the work conducted by New Hope Animal Rescue. “It was hard work but incredibly rewarding to see the difference we could make in just one day,” said Kirstie Staggs, Pet Care’s Head RVN. “We came away with a new appreciation for the dedication of the team at New Hope and the scale of the care they provide.” Kirstie was joined by her colleagues Caroline, Alison, Melanie, Laura and Sharon, forming a team of six dedicated RVNs, VCAs and receptionists on the trip. As part of their teambuilding, the Pet Care Veterinary Surgery team took to Herne Bay after their busy day was done for some well-earned fish and chips & ice cream!

At Kin Vet, we believe that, as well as offering the very best care to owners in our practice, supporting animal health and welfare in the wider community is part of our responsibility as a veterinary team. Volunteering days like this bring our values to life. They show empathy for animals beyond the practice, build trust with our community, and demonstrate transparency by showing, not just telling, how we give back.

The Pet Care team thoroughly enjoyed lending a hand and seeing how a bit of extra support could help the charity and the wider community. They are already planning to make volunteering a regular part of their calendar. Several colleagues are conjuring up new and creative ways to get involved in the community. We’re looking forward to seeing what they do in the future!

We’re so proud of our Pet Care team for rolling up their sleeves and putting our values into action, and we can’t wait to share more updates from their next volunteering adventure.
