Advanced Practioner in Small Animal Surgery

Graduating in 2011 in Portugal, Andre completed a 6-month internship before working in general practice. He then moved to the UK to specialize in surgery, gaining experience at top referral centers like the RVC, Liverpool University, and Dick White Referrals. After becoming a certificate holder and gaining Advanced Practitioner status in Small Animal Surgery, Andre started his own mobile referral service and joined The Vet Whetstone team in 2021. Outside of work he enjoys keeping fit, walking, and skiing. He also owns two terrier crosses called Quim and Amalia and a lizard called Lennie.

By law, pets receiving prescription medication must be seen by a vet at least every six months for a check-up and review. Some pets with more serious conditions may benefit from reviews more frequently. If your pet has not had a review within this time, we may ask you and your pet to come in for an appointment before we can dispense further medication.

For prescription flea, tick & worm treatment, your pet only needs to be seen by a vet every twelve months. However, a recent change in the law means that this treatment must be specifically authorised by a vet on your pet's medical record at the time they see your pet. If you have not discussed flea, tick & worm treatment recently with a vet, your pet may need to come in for an additional check-up and review.
