Swayne And Partners Newmarket Raise Over £800 For Local Stray Cat Fund

Swayne and Partners Veterinary Surgeons in Newmarket, part of the Kin Vet Community, hosted a charity raffle to raise funds for Bury Stray Cat Fund. Swayne and Partners have worked closely with the charity for several years to find homes for stray cats brought into its local practices.

To express their gratitude on behalf of the group, Head Nurse Kelly, Registered Vet Nurse Sammi and Student Vet Nurse Zoe from the Newmarket branch organised the raffle, liaising with local businesses throughout December to offer some fabulous raffle prizes.

The Swayne and Partners team were pleased to round out the raffle with a fantastic figure of £824 to pass on to the charity.

Sammi Hunt, Registered Veterinary Nurse at Swayne and Partners, Newmarket, reflects on her experience of working with Bury Stray Cat Fund, saying, “Throughout 2024 and previous years, we have unfortunately had several stray cats brought in, both to us and to our Bury St Edmunds branch. They can spend up to seven days with us while we wait for an owner to hopefully come forward. Bury Stray Cat Fund has been brilliant in helping us with any stray cats that have been brought in and finding them new homes.”

The success of the raffle was made possible thanks to generous donations from local businesses such as The Jockey Club, The Norton Dog, Andy’s Auto Fix and more, as well as several kind-hearted clients who donated to the raffle. Kelly, Zoe and Sammi volunteered countless hours during a very busy pre-Christmas period to coordinate with local businesses, design the raffle, and encourage client participation. Their excellent efforts raised a total of £824, which will contribute towards providing food, shelter, and veterinary care for dozens of stray cats while they await their forever homes.

The charity is particularly close to the hearts of the team in the Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds branches, making it an excellent choice for the raffle donation. Sammi continued, “One particular case when we involved Bury Stray Cat Fund springs to mind. Four stray cats were brought to the Swayne and Partners Newmarket practice. They were not microchipped and no-one had reported them missing. It was clear that these lovely cats no longer had an owner. Bury Stray Cat Fund agreed to take the cats, who were being looked after for the weekend at our Bury St Edmunds branch. It’s here that one of the team fell in love with the irresistible young white cat. One forever home down, three more to go. The other three cats were then on their way to Bury’s Stray Cat Fund, where they were well cared for and were soon rehomed.”

The charity raffle was a shining example of how Kin Vet Community encourages its practices to make a positive impact within their local communities. Ciara Mc Cormack, CEO of Kin Vet, expressed her pride in the team’s efforts, stating, “We strongly believe in the importance of giving back to the communities we serve. Initiatives like this not only support wonderful causes but also bring people together to make a real difference. We’re passionate in supporting all of our practices in taking part in activities like this that benefit the community and animal welfare alike.”
