Swayne & Partners in Bury St Edmunds operates from a large, purpose-built facility, the practice offers exceptional veterinary care in a modern, welcoming environment designed with both pets and owners in mind. As well as serving local clients, our Bury St Edmunds team provides vital out-of-hours support for over 19 practices across Norfolk, Suffolk, and Essex, with a dedicated team of overnight vets and nurses delivering expert 24-hour care.
Alongside Bury St Edmunds, we’re proud to have three other well-established practices in the Swayne & Partners group in Haverhill, Newmarket, and Long Melford, each offering the same high standards of service, compassion, and veterinary expertise. Meet Our Team
Rob Littlechild BA VetMB MRCVS
Clinical Director & Veterinary Surgeon

Rob graduated as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2017 and has worked in small animal practice ever since, spending most of that time with our team at Swayne & Partners in Bury St Edmunds. Now one of our Clinical Directors, he has a particular interest in surgery but enjoys the variety that general practice brings. At home, he has one cat who heroically puts up with two small children.

Clinical Director & Veterinary Surgeon

Claire graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2016 and moved to Suffolk in 2019 to join Swayne & Partners, stepping into the Clinical Director role alongside Rob in 2024. She has a keen interest in acute medical and inpatient care and holds a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (with a strong imaging focus), as well as a certificate in CT imaging. Outside of work, Claire’s border collie, Rey – often seen patrolling the practice – keeps her on her toes. Together, they enjoy hillwalking, running, paddleboarding, and the occasional bit of scentwork.
Jackie De Friez

Jackie is Swayne & Partners’ Client Services Manager, bringing her friendly, approachable nature to the practice. She loves getting to know our clients and their pets, and helping ensure everyone has a positive experience. Outside of work, Jackie enjoys long countryside walks with her cheeky (and thoroughly pampered) Jack Russell.
Hayley Patrick RVN
Head Registered Veterinary Nurse

Hayley began her career at Swayne & Partners as a student nurse in 2007. After qualifying, she became Head Veterinary Nurse in 2013 and now leads a team of 30 nurses and Veterinary Care Assistants. She is currently working towards a postgraduate certificate in Advanced Veterinary Nursing, which she hopes to complete in September 2025. Hayley has a particular interest in anaesthesia and in supporting the development of student veterinary nurses. Outside of work, she enjoys baking cakes (much to the team’s delight!) and spending time with her springador and independent-minded cat.

Alex graduated from Cambridge in 2019, and came to Swayne and Partners in the same year as a new graduate. After a couple of years with us he went back to Cambridge to do an internship in their specialist hospital, and then worked as a locum in the region before returning to Swayne’s full time in 2024, and he is now working towards a post graduate certificate in diagnostic imaging. As well as working in practice, Alex is also Director of Studies at Robinson College, where he studied in Cambridge, and teaches anatomy to vet students. Outside work he loves travelling, cooking, and going running with his cocker spaniel, Mia.

Saffron graduated from the Univery of Surrey in 2024 and started her veterinary career here at Swayne and Partners after seeing practice with the team during her studies. She has a variety of pets including a musk turtle named Squirtle, two very naughty chihuahuas called Trixie and Alfie, and has recently taken on a stray kitten called Tofu. Outside of work, Saffron spends every spare minute with horses and has recently started competing her ex-race horse, Peter Pan.

Since graduating in 2015 Catherine has worked in small animal practices in Norfolk and Suffolk. In this time she has found a passion for internal medicine, completing her certificate in this field. She is now recognised by her governing body, the RCVS, as an advanced veterinary practitioner in small animal internal medicine. She joined Swayne & Partners in 2023, helping with the complex medical cases we see in consult and as inpatients. She also still enjoys seeing the occasional puppy/kitten vaccine and helping care for our more senior patients too. In her spare time she juggles her family life of one toddler and two grumpy cats with her interests of swimming, hiking and singing.

Ed graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2020 and began his career at a busy small animal practice in Manchester, where he developed a strong interest in ophthalmology and imaging. After completing a rotating internship at the University of Cambridge in 2023, he worked across Cambridgeshire before joining Swayne and Partners in November 2024. He is currently studying for a Certificate in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging and regularly attends externships at local referral hospitals. Outside of work, Ed enjoys triathlons, golf, travelling, music, eating, and walks with his miniature dachshund, Alfie.

Eda joined Swayne and Partners following her graduation from University of Liverpool in 2023 and loves the variety that hospital work brings, particularly in medicine. Outside of work she loves to travel, swim, cook and is now dabbling in growing her own fruit.

Phoebe first joined Swayne & Partners as a work experience student and returned as a Veterinary Surgeon after graduating from Cambridge Veterinary School in 2022. While she loves all animals, Phoebe has a particular fondness for cats – especially the feisty ones – and is passionate about helping patients feel as calm and comfortable as possible in the consult room. Outside of work, she enjoys all kinds of craftwork, including pottery and needle-felting.

Nikki graduated from the University of Surrey in 2021 and now works as one of our night vets, alongside studying to become an Advanced Practitioner in Emergency Critical care. She loves surgery and all patients big or small. At home, she’s kept busy with her two mastiff crosses and sphynx cats.

Clare qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 2017 and is now one of our night vets at Swayne & Partners in Bury St Edmunds. She holds an advanced certificate in Emergency and Critical Care and enjoys the variety of cases that come through during her shifts. Outside of work, Clare stays busy chasing after three dogs, a cat, and her daughter.

Lauren has been with the team since 2023 after graduating from Cambridge Vet School. She has varied interests in medicine and surgery and loves the variety working in the hospital provides, with a soft spot for the elderly feline patients. Outside of work she enjoys running, travelling, and dog sitting for colleagues when the opportunity arises!

Sarah worked as a Registered Veterinary Nurse at Swayne & Partners for many years before taking on a teaching role at a nursing college. After a break, she returned to the team as our Pharmacy Manager, overseeing all the medicines used in the practice. Sarah still helps out in clinical areas when needed, and with her extensive knowledge of feline behaviour, she’s the go-to nurse for any cat-related queries.
Laura Baker RVN
Registered Veterinary Nurse & Ward Manager

Laura began her journey with Swayne & Partners in 2017 and went on to qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse before becoming Ward Manager in 2021. Working alongside Hayley to help lead the nursing team, Laura has a particular interest in internal medicine and emergency and critical care – making her ideally placed to guide and support the ward team with her expertise. Outside of work, she enjoys being outdoors, training her spaniels, and travelling both in the UK and abroad.
Ella Braybrook RVN

Ella began her career as a student nurse in 2018 and has since qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse. While she’s a skilled all-rounder, her true passion lies in inpatient care – particularly supporting patients who need close monitoring. Outside of work, Ella keeps active and enjoys spending time with her two lively Jack Russell–dachshund crosses.

Katie qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2013 and went on to complete a certificate in Emergency and Critical Care in 2018. After returning to the local area, she joined our Swayne & Partner’s team in 2022. With a strong background in referral practice and a passion for anaesthesia, Katie is set to begin a postgraduate certificate in anaesthesia in September 2025.

Charlie qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse at Swayne & Partners in 2015. After taking a break to work with horses, she rejoined our night nurse team in 2023. Outside of work, Charlie spends most of her time with horses – and often persuades her family to get involved too

Laura has been part of our Swayne & Partners team since 2022, completing her Registered Veterinary Nurse qualification with us after moving from another practice. She recently took a sabbatical to work at a local equine hospital, gaining valuable experience in emergency and critical care — skills she now applies to her small animal nursing. Outside of work, Laura enjoys spending time with her horse and running with her spaniel, Bunty.

Sam qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse at Swayne & Partners in 2021 and later transitioned from a day position to a dedicated night nurse role. She has a real passion for feline nursing and enjoys all aspects of feline medicine, along with the variety and pace of emergency work.

Sophie began her nursing career with Swayne & Partners as a placement student while completing her training. She quickly became a valued member of the team and was offered a permanent role after qualifying. Sophie has remained with us ever since and enjoys all aspects of nursing, splitting her time between the wards and theatre. Outside of work, she spends time with her husband, two daughters, two rescue dogs, and a lively herd of guinea pigs.

Shannon is part of our dedicated night nurse team at Bury St Edmunds, where she enjoys caring for critical care patients and assisting with emergency surgeries. At home, she’s kept busy by her furry (and feathered) family – cats, rabbits, a parrot, and her gentle Saint Bernard, Ava.

Lucy joined our Swayne & Partners team just over a year ago and quickly found her feet in the busy Bury St Edmunds practice. She enjoys the variety of cases she sees day-to-day, working across wards, theatre, and consulting. Lucy especially loves meeting clients and their pets during consults. Outside of work, she enjoys running, horse riding, and spending time with family and friends, particularly if there’s sunshine involved!

Emily qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse after training with our Swayne & Partners team. After some time away, she returned to join the emergency team, working night shifts. Emily thrives in the fast-paced environment of out-of-hours care, but also enjoys winding down at home with her husband, young daughter, and their spaniel.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

April qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2021 and joined our Swayne & Partners team shortly after. She enjoys working with inpatients and applying her medical knowledge, and hopes to gain a certificate in Emergency and Critical Care in the near future to support her out-of-hours work. A keen exercise enthusiast, April loves running and exploring the Scottish Highlands with her Border Collie, Jasper.
Lynda Hughes RVN

Lynda is one of our longest-serving Registered Veterinary Nurses, having joined Swayne & Partners back in 1997. She’s seen the practice and nursing team grow over the years but still loves her role as much as she did on day one. Lynda enjoys working in theatre, particularly monitoring anaesthesia during surgery. She’s cared for everything from tiny kittens to giant Newfoundlands and appreciates the unique needs of each patient. Outside of work, Lynda enjoys spending time with her family, two dogs, and cat.

Stacey began her nursing career with our Swayne & Partners team as a student in 2011. After qualifying, she developed a passion for exotic nursing and wildlife rehabilitation – she’s even been known to take hedgehogs home to care for them before releasing them. These days, Stacey spends most of her time working in the wards or supporting the pharmacy team. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, growing a variety of fruits and vegetables, and spending time with her partner and their daughter.

Kate is one of our dedicated night nurses at Swayne & Partners and has been working nights for over five years. She enjoys all aspects of emergency care and remains just as motivated and passionate about her role as when she first started. She returned to work part-time following the birth of her daughter and now spends most of her time caring for inpatients. Jane, a Registered Veterinary Nurse, has been with Swayne & Partners since 2010 and brings over 20 years of nursing experience to the team. Throughout her career, she has specialised in theatre, anaesthesia, and emergency and critical care. Chloe earned her BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing from Coventry University before joining our Swayne & Partners team in 2023. She enjoys caring for patients on the wards, with a particular interest in feline medicine. At home, Chloe can usually be found snuggled up with her cat Clementine – who’s a very effective alarm clock at 5 a.m. – or unwinding with computer games and out in nature.

Brooke began her veterinary nurse training in 2023 and is now nearing the end of her studies. She enjoys all aspects of nursing but hopes to specialise in medicine once qualified. Outside of work, Brooke is a music lover and regularly attends concerts by her favourite artists.

Kerry has been part of our Swayne & Partners team since 2020 and is now training to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse. She’s thoroughly enjoying her course – especially learning about different conditions and the reasoning behind each treatment. Kerry is particularly excited to deepen her knowledge in theatre and begin monitoring anaesthesia.

Veterinary Care Assistant

Remi is a Veterinary Care Assistant at Swayne & Partners in Bury St Edmunds, with a strong interest in exotic and wildlife nursing. Her passion for rehabilitation has led her to care for many injured birds at home and even establish her own small wildlife rescue. Alongside her rescues, Remi shares her home with a wide mix of pets, including dogs, rabbits, snakes, and pigeons.

Sam joined our Swayne & Partners team in 2019, quickly gaining his Veterinary Care Assistant qualification. He now works as Theatre Manager, coordinating daily procedures and equipment – a fast-paced role he thrives in alongside his theatre nurse team. Sam also has a very adventurous cat, who proudly serves as a blood donor for the practice. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring the countryside and climbing hills whenever he gets the chance.

Ava has been part of our Swayne & Partners team for over five years, supporting the nursing team across all aspects of patient care. She now works part-time, helping cover our weekend emergency service. Outside of work, Ava enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and their dog, Paddy.
Caroline Turton

Caroline is our longest-serving team member, having joined Swayne & Partners in 1988 when the practice was still based on Southgate Street. She has enjoyed seeing the practice grow and evolve over the years. Caroline has a passion for client communication and getting to know the patients we care for. Outside of work, she enjoys going to the gym and walking her two Dachshunds – who often accompany her to the practice.

Katie works part-time at our Bury St Edmunds practice, supporting the weekend emergency team. She loves caring for inpatients and making sure they receive the attention they need. Outside of work, Katie enjoys training and working her Labradors.

Trudy is one of our Client Support Administrators. She is a dog lover who enjoys nothing more than heading out on long walks with her dogs.

Jilly is true animal lover, she has a particular soft spot for dogs and enjoys meeting all the pets who come through the door. Outside of work, Jilly loves to travel and explore new places whenever she can.

James is one of our Client Support Administrators and a big dog lover with a great sense of humour. He’s also a dedicated Star Wars fan – his impressive knowledge means the Force may very well be with him.
Susan Wood
Client Support Administrator

Susan is one of our experienced Client Support Administrators and has been part of the Swayne & Partners team for over 30 years. Outside of work, she has a real passion for Arabian horses – she breeds and shows them, and is currently the British National Champion. Her dedication and eye for detail shine through in everything she does, both at the practice and in the show ring.
